Male/Female, Ages 14-18IAdelphoi Village offers a Vocational-Technical Program that includes various Career Preparation tracks including Culinary Arts, Small Engine Maintenance, Landscaping and Horticulture.
The program is structured to include up to 40 youth per year. Students are selected from among the 200 students in residential placement who attend school at Adelphoi Village’s main campus in Latrobe, Westmoreland County.
At the start of the program, teachers work with each student to develop a Vocational Action Plan. The Plan outlines the youth’s program-related goals, as well as his/her goals for career pursuit and/or training after completion of the program. Through the program curriculum, youth in each of the tracks acquire the necessary skills to prepare them for the appropriate career path, or for ongoing vocational training in those areas.
Youth also learn critical Job Readiness skills that prepare them for finding, obtaining and keeping a job. Skills imparted through this program include interviewing, filling out an application, punctuality, dealing with conflict, interacting with co-workers, dressing appropriately, budgeting, workplace ethics and goal-setting.
The overall goal of the initiative is to provide students with the knowledge that they need to make appropriate career choices and the vocational and job readiness skills necessary for successful reintegration into their respective communities.
