The Butler Alternative Education kids have adopted a parking garage located in the city of Butler. The students head for the top floor of the parking facility once every other week, armed with brooms, trash bags, dust pans and work gloves to clean up the rubbish that has accumulated. The Butler Parking Authority members thought this was a great idea and purchased cleaning equipment and trash bags for the project. |
Adelphoi Village supports Pennsylvania’s Juvenile Justice Act and continues to build upon the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ): Community Protection, Accountability, and Competency Development. Adelphoi Village began to incorporate BARJ principles into its programs for youth more than 10 years ago. Since that time, Adelphoi Village has made great strides in providing a framework for accountability, competency development and community protection.
A key part of providing accountability is allowing our kids the opportunity to give back to the community. Adelphoi Village youth typically participate in over 2,500 hours annually of community service. Last year alone, our kids took part in over 150 different community service projects.
Kids and staff came through in a big way once again for the annual Loyalhanna Lake clean-up. This is the biggest community service project that Adelphoi Village does in a single day in cooperation with the park service Corp of Engineers. Adelphoi had eight group homes participating this year: Benet , Colony, Greystone, Margaret, Marker, Monastery Run, Raphael and Vincent. In total, 68 youth and 23 staff members participated, for approximately 327 man hours of work.
